A Language of Characters

Part autobiographical and part dreamlike whimsy, Shantell Martin has created her own world that bridges fine art, commercial and the everyday experience—conversations, objects and places. Known for drawing on anything she encounters, from walls to shoes to herself, Shantell has built an impressive body of work and turned the art world upside down.

Shantell has been involved in several design industry events with Momentum, including serving as keynote speaker at Interior Design’s Giants event in 2017, where she spoke to more than 200 leading designers and architects about her creative journey.

That same 2017 ytear, Shantell Martin fabrics became part of the permanent collection at the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum in New York. Momentum partnered with the museum to upholster atrium pillows in her fabrics, installed during the spring 2017 textile exhibition—a beautiful display of her artistry in use.
